Pamella Dzindikwa, head of production at Puglia Cheese, has been recognised for her remarkable contribution to South Africa’s cheese industry. She was awarded the 2025 Hollard Game Changer Award, celebrating young professionals who are driving meaningful change in the dairy sector.
Since its founding in 2010, Puglia Cheese has gained acclaim for its wide range of cheeses, including burrata and fior di latte. Earlier this year, the cheesery received recognition at the South African Dairy Championships, highlighting Dzindikwa’s role in the company’s success.
Dzindikwa’s journey at Puglia Cheese began nine years ago as a cleaner. She advanced through the ranks, moving from packaging to assistant cheesemaker, and eventually becoming production manager. Her career progression reflects her dedication, skill, and passion for the craft of cheese making.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Andries Wiese, national business development manager at Hollard, noted that the Game Changer Award celebrates young professionals making a tangible impact in the dairy industry. “This award acknowledges their achievements and encourages them to keep pushing boundaries. Progress and development are essential for any industry. With this award, we tap into the energy and skill of these incredibly diverse and talented individuals and create a sustainable future for the dairy industry,” he said.
Breyton Milford, general manager of Agri-Expo, praised Dzindikwa for her expertise and leadership. He highlighted her mastery of spun cheeses and her pivotal role in expanding Puglia’s range to include mature Cheddar, montasio, fontina, taleggio, and Manchego. Milford also noted Dzindikwa’s innovation in developing Somerset cheese, named after Puglia’s location, and her contributions to the company’s multiple awards at the South African Dairy Championships and the Aurora International Taste Challenge.
Beyond production, Dzindikwa mentors new cheesemakers and fosters a culture of excellence at Puglia Cheese. Her commitment to training the next generation of professionals has strengthened the company’s reputation for quality and innovation.
Commenting on her award, Dzindikwa expressed gratitude and a desire to inspire others. “I’ve had mentors who believed in me, and I hope to pass that on. The dairy industry has changed my life, and I believe it can do the same for others.”
Dzindikwa’s recognition with the Hollard Game Changer Award underscores her influence on South Africa’s cheese industry and highlights the value of dedication, innovation, and mentorship in driving growth and excellence.
