The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD), in partnership with the Agricultural Research Council and the South African Police Service, recently conducted a Small Stock Farmers training in Kalkspruit Ga Maraba, Capricorn District. The programme focused on equipping farmers with practical knowledge and skills to enhance small stock production.
Participants learned best practices in livestock preservation, nutrition, health management, and biosecurity. The training emphasized strategies to improve herd quality, reduce losses, and increase overall farm productivity. Farmers were also guided on making informed decisions that support sustainable and resilient farming enterprises.
This initiative forms part of a wider effort to strengthen rural farming communities across Limpopo. LDARD plans to expand the training to other districts, ensuring more farmers gain access to these essential skills and knowledge. The programme aims to transform small stock farming into a productive and sustainable venture, boosting food security and livelihoods in rural areas.
