ARC Joins First General Assembly of China-Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) participated in the First General Assembly of the China-Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance (CAASTIA), a landmark initiative bringing together leaders from 26 Chinese and 31 African organizations. The assembly aims to strengthen collaboration in agricultural science, technology, and innovation, advancing food security and sustainable development across the continent.

ARC President and CEO Dr. Litha Magingxa and Executive Manager for Research Support and Coordination Dr. Petronella Chaminuka represented the organization at the event. They engaged with counterparts to share insights and explore opportunities to apply lessons from China’s successes in agriculture and poverty alleviation to African contexts.

In addition to plenary sessions, the ARC held bilateral discussions with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). The discussions focused on expanding joint initiatives under the existing memorandum of understanding between the two institutions. Areas of interest include collaborative research projects, technology transfer, capacity building, and innovation in crop and livestock management.

The event reflects a growing commitment to pan-African agricultural development through international partnerships. By leveraging China’s agricultural experience and fostering knowledge exchange, the alliance seeks to accelerate progress toward sustainable food systems, improved productivity, and rural development across Africa.
