Yesterday, Sakhisizwe Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Ponoshe, welcomed the Department of Agriculture as they handed over essential fodder inputs to 629 beneficiaries from 11 shearing sheds across the municipality. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support livestock farmers, enhance animal nutrition, and strengthen local agricultural production.
The distribution included high-quality fodder and related resources designed to sustain livestock, particularly during dry periods when grazing is limited. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, noting that improved access to fodder will help maintain healthy herds and boost productivity.
Mayor Cllr Ponoshe highlighted the importance of the initiative in supporting smallholder farmers and promoting sustainable livestock farming in the region. She encouraged beneficiaries to make efficient use of the inputs and to continue working closely with local Extension Officers for guidance on best practices.
The Department of Agriculture emphasized its commitment to ensuring farmers have the resources and technical support needed to improve livestock health and production. Initiatives like this aim to strengthen rural livelihoods, safeguard food security, and contribute to sustainable agricultural growth in Sakhisizwe.
Farmers who missed the distribution are encouraged to contact their local shearing shed coordinators or Extension Officers for information on upcoming support programs.
