LDARD MEC Nakedi Kekana, Polokwane Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Makoro John Mpe, Kgoshi Molepo and other dignitaries led a vegetable garden planting demonstration in Ga-Molepo. The event aimed to raise awareness about food insecurity and motivate households and institutions to grow their own fresh produce.

The leaders joined community members in planting vegetables to show how simple steps can strengthen food security. The activity also encouraged families to use available land to improve nutrition and reduce reliance on purchased food. The initiative will leave a lasting impact on Boshega Village and surrounding communities by promoting home gardens as a sustainable solution to hunger.

As part of the programme, MEC Kekana will hand over seed packages to 100 indigent households across the province. Each district will have 20 households receiving seeds to start vegetable gardens at home. The support gives families access to basic inputs needed to begin small food production projects that can grow over time.

The demonstration highlighted the value of practical, community driven food production. Households that plant their own gardens gain steady access to fresh vegetables and reduce vulnerability to rising food costs. The initiative also strengthens local knowledge about planting, soil care and seasonal production.

The leaders urged more communities to adopt vegetable gardening as a long term solution to hunger. By supporting local families with seeds and guidance, the programme aims to build a culture of self reliance and improve food security across the province.
