MEC Vuyiswa Ramokgopa delivered the keynote address at the #AgriBEEIndaba, calling for empowerment that delivers real, measurable impact in South Africa’s agricultural sector. She emphasized that transformation must extend beyond policy frameworks, positioning it as a national mission aimed at inclusive growth, shared prosperity, and lasting change for farmers, agripreneurs, and rural communities across Gauteng.

Ramokgopa outlined key principles to guide meaningful transformation. She stressed the importance of partnerships aligned with purpose, noting that collaboration between government, private sector, and community stakeholders should drive both growth and equity. She highlighted enterprise empowerment, focusing on strengthening black-owned agribusinesses to ensure sustainable participation in agricultural value chains.

The MEC also underscored accountability through impact. She argued that transformation should be measured by tangible improvements in livelihoods rather than symbolic scorecards. “Empowerment that doesn’t build capacity or create jobs is symbolism, not justice,” she stated, reinforcing the need for programs that deliver both economic and social outcomes.

Her address serves as a call to action for all stakeholders in agriculture. By linking growth, empowerment, and measurable impact, Ramokgopa advocates for a model of transformation that benefits the sector and uplifts communities, ensuring that South Africa’s agricultural development is both inclusive and sustainable.
