Makana Local Municipality strengthened its commitment to local agriculture by handing over 10 Bonsmara heifers and 1 bull to Hedraweb Farm, a family-owned enterprise managed by the Dlabantu family. The livestock forms part of a broader support package designed to boost the farm’s productivity and sustainability.

The municipality, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, has also provided fencing, a portable kraal, and a stock dam to improve farm infrastructure. The Office of the Premier contributed a tractor to assist with mechanized farming operations. These interventions aim to enhance the efficiency of Hedraweb Farm and ensure long-term growth.

Ms. Nomonde Dlabantu, owner of Hedraweb Farm, emphasized her commitment to building a lasting legacy. She noted that her children are actively involved in daily farm activities, ensuring that the knowledge and skills required for sustainable farming are passed on to the next generation.

This initiative highlights Makana Local Municipality’s focus on supporting emerging farmers and strengthening local food security. By providing livestock, equipment, and infrastructure, the municipality enables small-scale farmers to expand operations, increase production, and create opportunities for community development.

The livestock handover is part of a broader strategy to empower rural communities through agriculture. Hedraweb Farm is now better positioned to produce high-quality livestock, increase economic returns, and contribute to the municipality’s goal of promoting sustainable farming practices across the region.
