The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) and the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) successfully hosted the Management of Tomato, Pests, and Safe Use of Pesticides event at the LDARD Dzanani sub-zone. The event brought together farmers from the Nzhelele Valley, offering a platform for practical knowledge sharing and skill development in tomato production.

ARC researchers Jufter Musedeli, Thabang Nkgau, Phetolo Seshoka, and Satch Mosiane delivered detailed presentations covering key aspects of tomato cultivation. Farmers were educated on the identification and management of common pests, including leaf miners and whiteflies, and learned strategies to prevent infestations.

A highlight of the event was Mr. Satch Mosiane’s session on Tuta management and the safe application of pesticides. He provided practical guidance on integrated pest management, stressing the importance of correct pesticide use to protect crops, the environment, and the health of farmworkers.

The event concluded with remarks from Mr. Ramasindi Christopher, who thanked the department for organizing the initiative. He emphasized the value of such events in empowering local farmers and improving agricultural practices in the region.

Farmers left the event equipped with new skills and knowledge to enhance tomato production, manage pests effectively, and ensure safe pesticide practices.
