Premier Lazarus Mokgosi has reinforced the role of agriculture as a central pillar for economic growth, job creation, and inclusive development in the North West province. His remarks came during the handover of a new fleet of vehicles and the official relocation of the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to the TEB Building in Mahikeng. The event brought together government officials, stakeholders, and community representatives focused on strengthening agricultural service delivery. It also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve how government supports rural communities and farmers across the province. The initiative forms part of broader infrastructure and operational improvements aimed at boosting efficiency in the public service.

Mokgosi linked the investment to the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy, which identifies agriculture as a key driver of long term economic transformation. He stressed that the province must use agriculture in a structured and intentional way to stimulate growth and expand opportunities for residents. The strategy focuses on practical interventions that support farmers, strengthen food production systems, and create sustainable employment. He also emphasized that inclusive development remains a priority, especially in rural areas where economic activity depends heavily on agricultural support. According to him, coordinated action between departments and communities will determine how effectively these goals are achieved.

The newly handed over fleet of vehicles is expected to strengthen extension services across the province. These services play a critical role in connecting government officials with farming communities, especially in remote and underserved areas. The vehicles will allow extension officers to travel more efficiently, conduct site visits, and monitor agricultural projects with greater consistency. This improvement is aimed at closing service delivery gaps that have affected rural development in the past. Better mobility is also expected to improve response times when farmers need technical assistance or government support.

MEC Madoda Sambatha welcomed the investment and highlighted its direct impact on frontline service delivery. He noted that increased visibility of extension officers will improve trust and communication between government and farming communities. Sambatha also pointed out that the relocation of the department to the TEB Building will improve coordination and create a more efficient working environment. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to support better planning, faster decision making, and improved delivery of agricultural programmes. These changes aim to ensure that the department operates closer to the communities it serves while improving internal efficiency.

The combined effect of the fleet expansion and departmental relocation is expected to strengthen agricultural development across the province. Farmers are likely to benefit from improved access to government services, technical guidance, and development support. The move also aligns with broader efforts to modernize public service delivery and ensure that resources are used effectively. As government continues to prioritize agriculture, the focus remains on building a stronger rural economy that supports long term growth. The initiative signals a continued push toward practical interventions that directly improve livelihoods and strengthen food security in the region.
