A 48-year-old farm owner and 15 undocumented foreign nationals have been arrested following an immigration compliance operation conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) at a farm in Trichardsdal, within the Maake policing precinct in Limpopo.
The arrests were made on Monday, 29 June 2026, during a routine compliance inspection aimed at ensuring adherence to South Africa’s immigration and labour laws.
According to police, officers entered the farm while employees were on duty and conducted identity and immigration document checks after establishing that several workers were not South African citizens.
During the inspection, 12 employees were unable to produce valid immigration documentation and were confirmed to be undocumented foreign nationals. The workers were arrested on the scene, while the farm owner was also taken into custody on charges of allegedly harbouring and employing undocumented immigrants.
Police later apprehended three more undocumented foreign nationals who were also found working on the same farm, bringing the total number of arrested workers to 15.
The group consists of six women aged between 32 and 43 and nine men aged between 23 and 49. They appeared alongside the 48-year-old farm owner before the Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court on 30 June 2026.
The operation forms part of ongoing SAPS efforts to enforce immigration legislation, strengthen compliance within the agricultural sector, and address the employment of undocumented foreign nationals.
Authorities have reiterated that employers have a legal responsibility to verify the immigration status and work eligibility of all employees before offering employment. Failure to do so may result in criminal prosecution under South Africa’s Immigration Act.
The case remains under investigation.
