During an interview with eNCA, Kallie Kriel addressed claims about a so-called “white genocide” in South Africa. When asked if he agreed with the notion of genocide, Kriel was clear: AfriForum specifically frames the issue as attacks on farmers, not genocide.

Kriel emphasized that while farm attacks are a serious concern, exaggerating them as genocide spreads misinformation. “AfriForum specifically says there is an attack on farmers, not genocide,” he stated.

He also disagreed with Donald Trump, who has repeatedly suggested that white South Africans face genocide. Trump, the 45th president of the United States, has promoted this claim in speeches and social media posts, drawing international attention and criticism. Kriel disagrees with this narrative.

The tensions around the “white genocide” narrative even played out on the world stage during a high‑profile meeting between South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. In May 2025, Ramaphosa visited the U.S. for discussions intended to “reset” bilateral relations amidst rising diplomatic strains. However, the meeting took an unexpected turn when Trump presented Ramaphosa with videos and materials claiming to show evidence of a genocide against white farmers — footage and assertions that South African officials and independent observers have widely debunked. The moment was widely described as an ambush, with Trump confronting Ramaphosa in the Oval Office with these false claims and visuals, while the South African leader maintained that there was no systematic genocide occurring in his country.
