Farmers in Ngqamakhwe and surrounding areas will soon have improved access to agricultural support with the opening of new offices by the Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture. MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe received the keys from MEC for Public Works, Ms Siphokazi Lusithi, marking a step forward in service delivery for local farming communities.
The new office infrastructure will allow the department to provide faster, more effective support to farmers. Services will include guidance on crop management, livestock care, access to agricultural programs, and training workshops. Farmers will also be able to get assistance with regulatory requirements, market information, and government support initiatives.
This initiative demonstrates strong cooperation between government departments and a commitment to practical service delivery. By improving office capacity and accessibility, farmers can expect more consistent support, helping them increase productivity and strengthen their livelihoods.
Local farmers will also benefit from outreach programs and advisory services that the new offices will host. The facilities are designed to act as a central hub where farmers can meet extension officers, attend training sessions, and get updates on programs that support sustainable agriculture.
The new infrastructure is part of a broader strategy to enhance rural development, boost food production, and ensure that farmers have the resources and guidance they need to grow their businesses. For farmers in Mnquma Local Municipality and the wider Amathole District, the offices represent a practical tool for improving agricultural practices and community resilience. This development highlights the government’s focus on empowering farmers, making agricultural support more accessible, and promoting sustainable growth across the Eastern Cape.
