The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has launched an entrepreneurial skills training course for the third cohort of agriculture graduates. The program targets young professionals who need practical business skills to succeed in the agricultural sector. The Department is delivering the initiative in partnership with North West University. This partnership ensures the training is accredited and aligned with national vocational standards. The launch marks another step in building sustainable agri enterprises in Limpopo.
Training officially began today with the Mopani and Vhembe cohort. Participants have gathered at the Jericho Hotel in the Nandoni area of the Vhembe District. This first group will undergo an intensive program focused on entrepreneurship, business management, and applied agricultural economics. The course combines theory with practical case studies drawn from real farming environments. Training for this cohort will run from 19 January until 27 February 2026.
The rollout will continue across the province to reach more graduates. The Capricorn, Sekhukhune, and Waterberg cohort is scheduled to start on 26 January 2026. Their training will run until 6 March 2026. Sessions will be hosted at a venue near Polokwane or Mokopane to ensure accessibility for participants from these districts. This phased approach allows the Department to manage quality delivery across regions.
The curriculum is designed to equip graduates with skills needed to start and manage viable agricultural enterprises. You will gain knowledge in business planning, financial management, market access, and compliance. The program also focuses on innovation and value chain development. These skills respond directly to challenges faced by emerging farmers and agri entrepreneurs in Limpopo. The goal is to move graduates from job seekers to job creators.
After completion of the training, a formal certification ceremony will be held. The Department and North West University will jointly recognize the graduates’ new competencies. This certification adds value to your professional profile and improves access to funding and enterprise support opportunities. The initiative reflects a broader strategy to strengthen rural economies through skills development. It positions agriculture graduates to contribute meaningfully to food security and economic growth in Limpopo.
