South Africa’s red meat sector is set for a transformative moment with the launch of Agri X Fusion 2026, scheduled for 4–5 March at the North-West University (NWU) Mahikeng Campus. This first-of-its-kind event will unite farmers, researchers, processors, feedlots, and policymakers to tackle critical challenges across the red meat value chain, from genetics and feeding to biosecurity, market access, and climate resilience.
The two-day programme, spearheaded by Agri X in partnership with NWU, is designed to connect research with practical industry needs. Gerhard Diedericks, director of Agri X, highlighted that the event will combine presentations, panel discussions, and structured matchmaking sessions to foster direct collaboration between stakeholders and academia.
Frikkie Mare, CEO of the Red Meat Producers Organisation (RPO), emphasised the importance of this engagement. He noted that producers need actionable, research-based insights to improve on-farm operations, while researchers benefit from understanding the practical challenges farmers face. Agri X Fusion 2026 creates a platform where these interactions can translate into real-world applications and innovation adoption.
The first day of the event focuses on knowledge-sharing, featuring sessions on genetics, nutrition, biosecurity, and climate-smart production practices. Experts will present practical case studies, research outcomes, and strategies to improve value-chain competitiveness, giving producers and processors concrete takeaways to enhance productivity and profitability.
Day two prioritises one-on-one, pre-booked meetings. These targeted discussions allow participants to explore collaborations, investment opportunities, and strategic partnerships with industry leaders, researchers, and potential business partners. This structure ensures that insights gained on the first day are converted into actionable outcomes for participants.
Agri X Fusion 2026 also invites industry bodies, agribusinesses, and sponsors to participate actively. Engagement opportunities include speaking slots, exhibition space, and partnership programmes that enhance visibility while contributing to the development and competitiveness of South Africa’s red meat sector.
The event is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the industry by aligning research investment, innovation, and skills development with the needs of producers and processors. By bringing together all key players, Agri X Fusion 2026 aims to strengthen collaboration, improve value-chain efficiency, and support sustainable growth across South Africa’s red meat industry.
Interested participants and industry stakeholders can register their interest to receive updates when official registration opens.
