The Department of Agriculture, together with the Agricultural Research Council (ARC), hosted a successful Farmers’ Day at Gqubeni village in Mqanduli. The event is part of the Department’s ongoing initiative to strengthen farmer support services and improve livestock management in rural communities.
The demonstration provided farmers with practical, hands-on learning opportunities. Participants observed techniques designed to improve herd management and on-farm decision-making. Key activities included animal branding, bull and heifer selection, silage production, correct injection sites for livestock, synchronisation procedures, and pregnancy diagnosis.
Farmers had the chance to ask questions and practice new skills under the guidance of technical experts. This approach ensures they can apply the knowledge directly to their farms, improving livestock health and productivity.
The Department emphasized its commitment to equipping farmers with the skills and knowledge needed for sustainable agricultural development. By combining technical demonstrations with practical training, the initiative supports improved livestock productivity and strengthens rural farming systems across the province.
Farmers interested in participating in future demonstrations are encouraged to contact their local Extension Officers for guidance and support.
