Farmers and agricultural experts gathered at eMbalenhle South Hall in the Govan Mbeki Municipality for a Fresh Produce Marketing Capacity Building Workshop. The event was hosted in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Produce Agents Council (APAC), and the Department of Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA).

The workshop provided a platform for participants to gain insights into improving market access and maximizing the value of fresh produce. Presentations covered key topics such as Fresh Produce Marketing, the Agricultural Marketing Information System, and the Export of Fresh Produce in South Africa. Experts highlighted strategies to increase competitiveness, meet market standards, and tap into export opportunities.

Farmers were also reminded of the importance of compliance with the Agricultural Products Standards Act. Sessions included guidance on the safe use of chemicals to protect both crops and consumers, as well as information on agro-processing opportunities that can increase income and create local employment.

Participants engaged in discussions on practical approaches to marketing, pricing, and value addition. The event emphasized the role of knowledge sharing in strengthening the agricultural sector, improving food safety, and promoting sustainable practices.

The workshop reinforced the commitment of government agencies and industry bodies to support farmers in enhancing their production, meeting regulatory requirements, and accessing broader markets. By equipping producers with the right tools and information, the initiative aims to contribute to a more competitive and resilient fresh produce sector in South Africa.
