Yesterday, the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (GDARD) hosted the Land Bank Executive Team for a series of strategic site visits across key agricultural projects. The visits covered the Tarlton, Bekkersdal, and Eikenhof Agriparks, as well as the Egg Aggregation Station in Krugersdorp.
The purpose of the engagement was to identify partnership opportunities that align with GDARD’s aggregation strategy. This strategy focuses on improving market access for farmers, enhancing food safety standards, and promoting regulatory compliance across agricultural value chains.
At each site, the teams examined how coordinated investment and institutional support can unlock growth potential in Gauteng’s farming sector. The Agriparks visited are central to rural development efforts, offering shared infrastructure and resources that enable smallholder and emerging farmers to scale their production and access formal markets.
In Tarlton, discussions centered on the role of aggregation in connecting producers to buyers and processors. At Bekkersdal and Eikenhof, the focus shifted to how technology and infrastructure can streamline agricultural operations and improve productivity. The Krugersdorp Egg Aggregation Station showcased how local poultry producers are being supported through structured value chain management and quality assurance systems.
GDARD officials emphasized that collaboration with the Land Bank is vital to achieving sustainable agricultural growth in Gauteng. Land Bank’s expertise in agricultural finance complements GDARD’s development agenda, particularly in expanding credit access and strengthening project viability.
Through these partnerships, GDARD aims to build a more resilient and inclusive agricultural sector. The combined efforts of both institutions are expected to create new market opportunities, drive compliance excellence, and ensure food security for the province. The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment between GDARD and the Land Bank to empower farmers, modernize agri-infrastructure, and position Gauteng as a hub for sustainable agricultural innovation.
