During the Provincial World Food Day commemoration in Philippolis, Xhariep District, Community Safety, Roads and Transport MEC Jabu Mbalula joined Agriculture MEC Elzabe Rockman to deliver integrated services to local farmers and residents.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) partnered with public and private stakeholders to bring essential resources and information directly to the community. The initiative aimed to improve access to agricultural support, social services, and health resources, while reducing transport barriers for residents in remote areas.

Participating organisations included the Department of Health, Department of Social Development, SASSA, Veterinary Services, SA Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels. Each offered guidance, information, and practical assistance, helping farmers and households navigate opportunities in agriculture, nutrition, and social development. Veterinary Services conducted a Rabies Vaccination Campaign on-site, emphasizing livestock health as a critical component of rural livelihoods.

The day also featured outreach on farming techniques, access to grants, and support for small-scale agriculture, ensuring participants could integrate best practices into their operations. MEC Rockman highlighted the importance of connecting communities to resources that strengthen food security and agricultural productivity. MEC Mbalula stressed that safe and accessible transport is key to enabling farmers to reach markets and services efficiently.

This initiative demonstrates how coordinated government and private sector efforts can support sustainable agriculture, enhance rural livelihoods, and create stronger, more resilient farming communities in the Free State.
