Wendy Moshakga is a young, self taught farmer from Moletjie Ga, Rammetloana, in Limpopo. She is the founder and driving force behind Seratego Farms, an emerging agricultural business rooted in Lonsdale, Moletjie, within the Polokwane Municipality. Her journey into farming began in 2021, long before Serage Holdings was officially registered in 2024. After completing her tertiary studies, Wendy struggled to find employment. With limited opportunities available, she made a bold decision to create her own path through farming. She had no start up capital. To raise money, she collected and recycled cans. That income funded her first farming inputs. This marked the beginning of a journey she often describes as moving from nothing toward purpose and progress.

Wendy started with crop production and quickly found her strength in cabbage farming. Through observation, trial, and persistence, she mastered the crop and became known as the Cabbage Lady. She produces cabbage consistently, even during periods when many farmers fail. This reliability helped her build a strong and loyal customer base. She later added spinach and other vegetables, expanding her market reach. As her confidence and skills grew, Wendy diversified into livestock. Today, her operations include pigs, a hatchery, and broiler production. This mixed farming approach allows her to manage risk and create multiple income streams. What started on small plots has grown into structured farming operations supported by Serage Holdings.

Wendy’s journey has included serious challenges. She has lost crops to hail and faced resource limitations. Each setback tested her resolve. She responded by learning faster, planning better, and leaning on community support. These experiences shaped her into a resilient and practical farmer. Beyond farming, Wendy is deeply committed to empowerment. She creates jobs and shares knowledge through training initiatives such as Classes With Wendy Moshakga. She also co founded the Sisters in Farming cooperative to support women entering agriculture. Her work focuses on skills transfer, confidence building, and rural economic growth.

Her impact has earned national recognition. In 2025, Wendy Moshakga received the South Africa Agricultural Award for Rural Transformative Farmer of the Year. The award recognizes her resilience, leadership, and contribution to empowering rural communities through agriculture.

Wendy Moshakga is still growing her farming business, but her story already stands as proof of what determination can achieve. She is not yet where she wants to be, but she is far from where she started. Through Seratego Farms, she continues to build a future rooted in hard work, learning, and opportunity.
