Northern Cape Brings Agricultural Support Closer to Siyancuma Farmers

Farmers and rural residents in Siyancuma Local Municipality had an opportunity to access agricultural and rural development services directly from government during the Northern Cape Provincial Executive Council’s ExCo Outreach Programme at the Rademeyer Sportsgrounds in Griekwastad. The outreach forms part of Premier Dr Zamani Saul’s continued efforts to bring government services closer to communities, particularly those whose livelihoods depend on agriculture and land. MEC Newrene Klaaste and officials from the Department engaged directly with residents and listened to concerns affecting farming, livestock, land and environmental management. For farmers, having government officials available in their communities provides an important opportunity to seek information, raise challenges and understand what support is available. The programme also demonstrated how direct engagement can help strengthen the connection between farmers and the agricultural services intended to support them.
