The Head of Department (HoD) for Limpopo’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD), Mme Mpho Mashamba, visited the Banareng ba-Sekororo Traditional Authority under Maruleng Local Municipality to strengthen partnerships and fast-track service delivery in the region. The visit formed part of a bilateral meeting between the Banareng ba-Sekororo Traditional Authority, LDARD, and the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development (DLRRD).
Kgoshi Matshengoane III warmly received Mme Mashamba and her delegation. In her address, the HoD emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration between government departments and traditional leadership structures. She noted that collective efforts can significantly boost Limpopo’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through improved agricultural production and rural development initiatives.
Mme Mashamba reaffirmed the department’s commitment to resolving challenges faced by communities and stakeholders. She said the department aims to provide direct support and practical solutions that promote sustainable development within Banareng ba-Sekororo. “Traditional authorities, farmers, and local communities remain our most valued partners. We hold them in high regard because they are the backbone of agricultural growth in the province,” she said.
During the meeting, representatives from Banareng ba-Sekororo expressed appreciation for the department’s outreach efforts. They highlighted their willingness to continue constructive engagement, particularly with the Makhutswe Communal Property Association (CPA), to ensure that community projects align with broader development goals.
The Director for Mopani District in the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also announced the extension of the Farmers Support Programme to 31 October 2025. This extension aims to give traditional authorities and stakeholders more time to inform farmers about available assistance and application procedures.
Following the meeting, Mme Mashamba and her team visited Malemela Peba Poultry Farm, a project supported by LDARD. The department has contributed to the farm’s success by constructing three 3000-capacity poultry houses equipped with feeding and watering systems, manual ventilation, silos for feed storage, a solar power system, a borehole, water reticulation, and packaging facilities.
The visit demonstrated the department’s practical approach to empowering farmers and promoting agricultural development at the grassroots level. By engaging directly with traditional leaders and supporting projects like Malemela Peba Poultry Farm, LDARD continues to strengthen food security, create jobs, and drive economic growth across Limpopo.
