MEC Madoda Sambatha will lead the establishment of women-led agricultural projects in Kabe village, near Mahikeng, on Monday, 26 January 2026. The initiative, driven by the Department, aims to place women at the center of agricultural transformation, strengthen food security, and promote community resilience.
The event is themed “Women as Enablers of Food Security: Inspiring Communities to Eradicate GBV and Social Ills.” It underscores the vital role women play in promoting sustainable agricultural practices while tackling social challenges. Agriculture is not only a source of food security but also a driver of economic independence. By empowering women to lead agricultural projects, households can access consistent income and nutrition, reducing pressures that often contribute to social tensions and gender-based violence.
This initiative will unite non-governmental organizations, agricultural youth formations, the provincial structure of Women in Agriculture and Rural Development, and farmers’ associations. Together, they will work to strengthen food security while addressing pressing social issues.
The event will take place at the Kabe Community Sports Ground, starting at 10:00. Members of the media are encouraged to attend to capture the voices of women actively reshaping agriculture and transforming their communities.
This project represents a significant step toward creating inclusive agricultural opportunities, supporting women’s leadership, and promoting sustainable community development.
