On 18 December 2025, the Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture delivered production inputs to 70 beneficiaries in Graaff-Reinet. The support took place under Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality in the Sarah Baartman District. The intervention focused on emerging farmers who depend on livestock for income and household food supply. It formed part of ongoing provincial efforts to stabilise small scale production. The department worked with local partners to ensure accurate targeting and smooth distribution.

Support was coordinated through the Sheshamane Community Gardens Project in Ward 6 and the Amaqoma and P Jooste Primary Cooperatives in Ward 3. Thirty poultry beneficiaries received poultry feed to maintain flock health and production levels. Forty piggery beneficiaries received pig feed to support growth and reduce losses. Feed costs remain one of the biggest barriers for emerging farmers. This input support directly reduces production pressure during peak demand periods.

The initiative continues to strengthen food security across the area. Poultry and pig production provide accessible protein for local communities. Consistent feed supply improves output and income stability for beneficiary households. Many farmers rely on livestock sales for school fees and basic expenses. The department reaffirmed its commitment to supporting emerging farmers through practical, results driven interventions.
