On Friday, GDARD welcomed the Board Members of the National Chamber of Milling (NCM) to the Isigayo Milling Plant in Randfontein. The delegation included NCM Chairperson Peter Cook, Executive Director Boikanyo Mokgatle, South African Grain Milling Academy Head of Training Yolanda Geldenhuys, and Transformation Committee Chairperson Xolani Ndzaba.
The visit focused on supporting small milling enterprises through knowledge sharing, technical training, and mentorship. The goal is to strengthen operations, promote sustainability, and increase competitiveness in the milling sector.
Discussions explored ways to improve efficiency, adopt industry best practices, and expand access to resources for emerging millers. GDARD shared its support programs, including training initiatives, access to infrastructure, and networking opportunities between established and new milling businesses.
Transformation in the sector was a key topic, with emphasis on creating inclusive opportunities for historically disadvantaged entrepreneurs. Mentorship and technical guidance were highlighted as essential for empowering small millers and ensuring long-term growth.
The engagement demonstrated GDARD and NCM’s shared commitment to building a resilient and inclusive milling industry. By combining technical expertise with practical support, small milling enterprises are positioned to grow, enhance local grain production, and strengthen South Africa’s agro-processing sector.
