Local farmers in Victor Khanye Local Municipality attended a Marketing Information and Capacity Building workshop at the DARDLEA offices in Delmas, focusing on improving their access to profitable markets. Presentations highlighted the importance of understanding market requirements, quality standards, and identifying potential buyers. Farmers were also guided on how to expand into wider and more profitable markets.
The workshop covered practical topics including processing units and export opportunities, marketing of produce and livestock, drafting business plans, and conducting market research. These sessions were designed to equip farmers with actionable strategies to increase sales and competitiveness.
The Economic and Marketing Directorate led the initiative in collaboration with the national Department of Agriculture and the Agriculture Produce Agents Council (APAC). The partnership aimed to help farmers use the Agricultural Marketing Information Systems (AMIS) effectively. Through AMIS, farmers can make informed decisions about production, pricing, and sales strategies, ensuring they meet market demands and maximize returns.
Participants left the workshop with a clearer understanding of market dynamics and the tools to enhance their agricultural businesses. The initiative strengthens local agricultural capacity and supports the growth of rural economies by connecting farmers to more lucrative markets.
