KZN MECs Hold Joint Media Briefing on Government-Owned Infrastructure and Farm Handover

A joint media briefing by KwaZulu-Natal MECs is currently underway in Durban, focusing on the verification of government-owned infrastructure, the handover of assets, and the assessment of farms for agricultural use and economic development. The briefing highlights a coordinated effort between key departments to support farmers and stimulate economic growth in the province.

The initiative involves the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, and the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs. Through departmental programs, 11 farms will be handed over to KwaZulu-Natal farmers, providing opportunities to increase agricultural production and local employment.

MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa, emphasized the importance of equipping farmers with the resources and support needed to maximise the potential of these farms. She highlighted that the handover aligns with broader efforts to promote food security and sustainable rural development across the province.

MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Martin Meyer, spoke on the verification of government-owned infrastructure. He stressed that accurate assessment and proper management of assets are essential for efficient service delivery and economic planning.

MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, highlighted the potential of these farms to contribute to economic growth. He noted that the initiative will not only support agriculture but also create opportunities for agribusiness and local enterprise development.

The briefing marks a historic step in interdepartmental collaboration, with a clear focus on ensuring that government resources are effectively utilised to empower farmers, strengthen the agricultural sector, and drive economic development in KwaZulu-Natal.
