KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa, conducted an oversight visit to the Ntendelezane Cooperative in the Nkaseni area yesterday as part of Operation Siyahlola. The visit focused on assessing progress and recognising the role of local farmers in advancing food security and sustainable livelihoods.
During the visit, the MEC engaged with cooperative members to review farming operations, production practices, and challenges affecting local agriculture. The Ntendelezane Cooperative, known for its commitment to community-driven farming initiatives, showcased its crops and livestock projects, highlighting the tangible impact of local agricultural activities on household nutrition and income generation.
Hon. KaMadlopha-Mthethwa emphasised the importance of supporting emerging farmers and cooperatives as key drivers of rural development. He noted that structured oversight and continuous engagement help ensure that government initiatives translate into measurable improvements in food production and economic opportunities for communities.
The visit also included discussions on the provision of technical support, access to inputs, and potential market linkages for cooperative produce. MEC KaMadlopha-Mthethwa reaffirmed the department’s commitment to empowering local farmers and ensuring that Operation Siyahlola strengthens food security across KwaZulu-Natal.
