In celebration of Nutrition Week and World Food Day, the Department, together with the Departments of Social Development, Health, and Education, hosted a successful Women’s Dialogue at Seoding Tribal Hall in Kuruman. The event focused on empowering women and youth with practical knowledge on healthy eating, food gardens, agro-processing, maternal health, and waste management.
The dialogue aimed to strengthen local efforts to combat poverty and food insecurity. Participants gained insights on growing nutritious food, processing agricultural products for added value, and implementing sustainable household practices. Discussions also highlighted the importance of maternal health and community-led solutions for improving nutrition outcomes.
The Department’s Veterinary Services team provided on-site services, vaccinating approximately 590 dogs and 10 cats. This outreach targeted remote communities with limited access to veterinary care. A total of 216 pet owners expressed their appreciation for the quality services rendered, ensuring healthier pets and supporting broader community well-being.
The event reinforced the link between nutrition, health, and community development. By equipping women and youth with knowledge and resources, the initiative promotes stronger, more resilient communities. Participants left with practical skills to implement food security solutions at the household and community levels.
Through integrated efforts in health, social development, and agriculture, the Department continues to build inclusive programs that address food insecurity, support sustainable livelihoods, and improve overall community health. Together, these initiatives contribute to growing healthier and stronger communities across the region.
