The Capricorn East Agro Ecological Zone is hosting a three-day, credit-bearing training programme for farmers in and around Bochum under the Blouberg Local Municipality. The initiative aims to equip rural farmers with practical and theoretical knowledge in primary agriculture, enabling them to make informed decisions that increase yields and promote sustainable farming practices.
During the workshop, participants receive training on essential aspects of primary agriculture. Sessions cover soil testing, crop management, planting methods, fertilisation, pest control, and record keeping. Farmers gain hands-on experience alongside theoretical instruction, allowing them to apply modern, climate-smart techniques that enhance productivity while preserving natural resources.
The programme emphasizes building confidence among rural farmers, showing them how to integrate innovative practices with traditional knowledge. Trainers demonstrate how small changes in cultivation methods and farm management can significantly improve crop output and resilience against environmental challenges.
The Department of Agriculture highlights the importance of such initiatives in bridging the knowledge gap between farmers and evolving agricultural technologies. By providing structured training, the programme ensures farmers are better prepared to respond to market demands and changing climate conditions.
At the conclusion of the three-day workshop, participants will receive NQF Level 1 certificates. More importantly, they will leave with practical skills that strengthen production efficiency, improve resource management, and promote sustainable agricultural development within their communities.
The training underlines the Department’s commitment to empowering rural farmers, fostering knowledge transfer, and supporting the long-term growth of South Africa’s agricultural sector.
