Today, Mogaputsi High School hosted a training session on climate-smart agriculture and mixed farming for farmers of Ga-Mathabatha and learners from surrounding schools. The event, held within the Capricorn South Agro Ecological Zone, brought together key stakeholders including the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD). The training aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge to build a more resilient and sustainable farming future.

The programme highlighted the growing importance of climate-smart agriculture in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Participants learned strategies designed to increase productivity, adapt to changing weather patterns, and reduce harmful emissions. Key practices discussed included efficient water use, soil conservation methods, crop diversification, and sustainable livestock integration. These approaches ensure food security while reducing environmental pressure.

A strong focus was placed on involving both current farmers and young learners. By exposing learners to climate-smart techniques early, the initiative creates continuity in knowledge transfer and embeds a culture of sustainability. Farmers gained practical solutions for immediate application, while learners were inspired to view agriculture as a viable livelihood option.

Through this joint engagement, stakeholders reaffirmed the role of education and training in securing a resilient agricultural sector. The session underscored the need for collaborative action to ensure that both present and future generations are prepared to navigate the uncertainties of climate change while keeping agriculture productive and sustainable.
